An excellent postdoctoral research opportunity is immediately available with the laboratory of Woong-Ki Kim at Eastern Virginia Medical School to explore macrophage biology and to develop macrophage-targeted therapy for the treatment of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND), Alzheimer’s disease, obesity and diabetes. We are seeking 1 or 2 highly motivated Research Scholars who want to pursue an academic career in neuroimmunology and macrophage biology. The laboratory uses non-human primate (NHP) models to connect mouse investigations and human observations of many chronic inflammatory diseases.

Open research opportunities also include the investigation of the therapeutic potential of macrophage-targeted approaches in the translational NHP models of diabetes and obesity. All these projects are supported by highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams of scientists and extensive core services.
Job Qualifications: Successful candidates will have a recent doctoral degree and training in immunology, and/or neuroscience. Candidates with a background in bioinformatics and computational biology are also encouraged to apply. It is expected that successful candidates will have a minimum of 1 or 2 first-authored publications from his or her doctoral training. A multi-year commitment to postdoctoral training is expected.
