I am currently a Postdoctoral Associate at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota, and will be joining the University of Bern, Switzerland in January 2026 under the mentorship of Prof. Britta Engelhardt. As a neuroscientist from Tanzania, I will deeply be committed to expanding the visibility of IBBS in Africa and creating opportunities for young scientists to engage in brain barrier research. This mission is already in motion as in April 2025, I had the unique opportunity to participate as a facilitator in the IBRO–ISN Neuroimmunology and Neurochemistry School held at Mohammed V University, Rabat, Morocco. This event brought together aspiring neuroscientists from across Africa. During the school, I led engaging discussions on brain barrier anatomy and physiology in health and disease, and shared insights on how African scientists can contribute to advancing this important field. These schools will be an exciting platform to further introduce IBBS to emerging researchers and to foster international collaboration.
I am deeply honored to be nominated for the IBBS Steering Council as a Junior representative. If elected, it would be a great privilege to learn and work alongside such a passionate group of scientists dedicated to advancing the brain barriers field. I’m genuinely excited about the chance to be involved and to help shape future initiatives of the IBBS. My goal is to enhance IBBS’s global visibility and to build stronger bridges between scientists in Africa and the international brain barrier community.
