I have been involved in blood-brain barrier focused research for the past 26 years. Our laboratory has been working to develop and use cell-based models of the BBB to answer questions related to BBB development, disease and drug delivery. In parallel, we work to identify and engineer antibody-based platforms to deliver therapies to the CNS. I have served on the IBBS governing council since its inception, first as a young researcher and then as a faculty member. During the past 20 years, the BBB field has grown rapidly and I am proud to have played a small role in its expansion. In addition to publicizing the field, helping to organize related meetings and sponsoring the IBBS journal, FBCNS, I would like to see the society expand its role in mentoring members new to the field in both academia and industry to assist them as they launch successful careers.
