I am Chair of Neurovascular Genetics and Head of the Department of Genetics at Trinity College Dublin. I am an international opinion leader and expert on the role of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in health and disease. I currently have 15 researchers (10 Postdocs and 5 PhD students) in my group and I have now trained over 17 postgraduate students to completion.
I am passionate about organising conferences and since 2014, I have been involved almost every year in Chairing or serving on the committee of an international conference. A major highlight of my career to date was being elected to Chair this GRC meeting. This is the most important international BBB meeting and was attended by the key opinion leaders in my field. The meeting took place on New Hampshire, USA in June 2024. This conference was a major success and attracted the biggest names in my research area (https://www.grc.org/barriers-of-the-cns-conference/2024/). I believe my experience and knowledge of the BBB community will be a major asset to the IBBS in the years ahead.
